FT Early Learning Lead Teacher

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Collaborates with and supports assistant teacher(s) in creating, planning and implementing daily activities, field trips and curriculum. Ensures that curriculum and daily activities encourages the growth of children in their cognitive, physical, linguistic and social/emotional development. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.


  • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans utilizing a wide range or methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing and age appropriate tools to enhance children’s learning.)
  • Creates and guides parent communication routines to ensure effective communication about daily activities, nap, eating habits, progress and skills that are being worked on, etc.
  • Supervises the safety of all children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Trains new employees on center/classroom procedures, including Childcare Licensing Regulations.
  • Provides leadership and assist teachers, aides and volunteers in the classroom to ensure licensing standards, policies and procedures are met properly.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Creates individual portfolios for children to monitor progress and assessment records.
  • Conducts parent conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Participates in required annual training to continue to grow as an educator and professional.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, YMCA staff and colleagues.
  • Change diapers/or soiled undergarments of infants and toddlers.
  • Help with mealtimes and snacks for children. Ensures dietary restrictions of children in the classroom are known to all staff and/volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree in related Field or a Child Development Credential or at least 1 years of experience in a licensed child care facility.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Infant/Child/Adult CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • Minimum one-year Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
