In 1915, pillars of the community like Fred Willson, Carlisle Kenyon, and the Story brothers, recognized that a growing Bozeman needed more than roads, businesses, and homes. It needed a place where people could belong. They helped establish the Bozeman YMCA with the belief that strong communities are built by creating opportunities for people to reach their full potential.

For decades, the Bozeman YMCA served as a cornerstone of the community. As the population grew, so did the YMCA's mission. In 2000, the organization became the Gallatin Valley YMCA, embracing a broader vision to serve the entire region.

Today, more than a century after those first community leaders came together, the Gallatin Valley YMCA continues to carry that vision forward—helping children gain confidence through swim lessons, supporting families with quality childcare, inspiring healthy lifestyles, and creating opportunities for people of every age and background to connect, grow, and thrive. While the places and programs have evolved over the years, our purpose has remained unchanged: to strengthen the foundations of our community by investing in its people.
